Buddhists say that all life is suffering and, for this reason, optimism is wicked. Despite this, I still look forward to my morning coffee and newspaper. Do you think I'm shallow...or evil?

Dear Randy,
You might be shallow, but you're definitely not evil. And a Buddhist has no right to judge you on that anyway, since they value everyone equally under the law -- the law of compassion for all beings. I seriously don't think you're evil. I know a lot of people whose morning temperament is downright satanic. You, on the other hand, sound like someone who's nice to be around when they wake up.
